THE PERFECT CUP OF TEA USING LOOSE LEAF TEAS: TEA BREWING TIPS FROM OUR TEA MASTER
HEATING THE WATER
Always start with freshly drawn cold water. If possible, use filtered water to remove any other additives like chlorine that may affect the taste. Heat water using an electric or stovetop kettle. Boil the water to the temperature recommended for your tea, it can vary from 65 to 100 degrees centigrade click here for more details. Tea leaves love oxygen, so we recommend not to use previously boiled water as it becomes de-oxygenated and will not produce a good brew.
CHOOSE YOUR TEA
Choose your favorite tea from our carefully curated tea library including more than 120 teas. A specialised selection process is used by our tea master to choose each one.
Warm the pot by swirling a small amount of boiled water in it and rinse. Measure the correct amount of tea leaves per person and add them to the warm teapot. Gently pour hot water over the tea leaves
From a short 60 seconds to a long five minutes, each tea variety has a different brewing time, click here for more details.
When the tea is ready, strain into your favourite teacup or mug and enjoy
Its a matter of taste and personal preference. Our tea master’s recommendation is to try drinking tea ‘black’, you will be surprised by the difference in flavour. Some tea varieties are naturally sweet, so they may not require any sugar.
When it comes to milk, stronger teas such as our Assam and Royal Breakfast do taste delicious when a splash of milk is added, it mellows the strong flavour and enhances the taste, but green, white and floral teas are very delicate and you should drink them without anything added to them.
Pale green in colour it has a
fresh, light and slightly grassy
flavour. Slightly milder than white
tea, enjoy subtle notes of sweetness
and astringency
The East India Company first ‘discovered’ cha in China and decided to call it ‘tea’. Upon arrival in 1664, the Directors presented it as a gift to King Charles II, where it took the court and fashionable society by storm. From being one of the very first regular importers of tea to Britain to stocking over 120 authentic, seasonal, rare and exclusive teas today, The Company was instrumental in popularising tea as a hot drink.
We have a direct relationship with the finest tea estates and our teas are some of the freshest available as they arrive in its stores and online just 28 days after the leaves have been picked on the tea estates. Our tea master Lalith ensures that we offer premium quality teas with a consistency of taste, aroma and flavour throughout the year.
